Events/Programme Volunteers - rolling opportunity

Do you have a passion for dance and a desire to make a difference in your community? Do you wish to develop your skills, gain confidence, improve your CV or just socialise with other locals? If so, DanceWest wants you! We are seeking Volunteer Community Curators to help us shape our dance programs and ensure that they meet the unique needs of our diverse community. We generally need volunteer support in the following areas:

  • Teaching Assistant

  • Administration and Project Management Assistant

  • Marketing/Social Media/Communications

  • Community Dance Assistant (e.g. Early Years, Elderly, Special Educational Needs)

  • Producing

Community Curators - rolling opportunity

We are seeking Volunteer Community Curators to help us shape our dance programs and ensure that they meet the unique needs of our diverse community. As a Community Curator, you will have the opportunity to work alongside other passionate volunteers, artists, and teachers to co-design and develop our dance classes and events. This is a unique opportunity to listen to our communities, identify their needs and help us transform the health and wellbeing of our vulnerable and diverse communities through dance.

What skills/attributes are you looking for?

Depending on what you are able to support us with, we are looking for people with some of the following skills, but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are the most important things!

  • Enthusiasm for Dance: A passion for dance and its role in community engagement, health, and well-being.

  • Adaptability: Ability to work with a wide range of participants, adapting your approach to meet the needs of different groups, including young children, older adults, and people with disabilities.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with participants, staff, and the wider community.

  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with the lead artist and other team members to ensure sessions run smoothly.

  • Initiative: Confidence to take on responsibilities within practical sessions and contribute creative ideas where appropriate.

  • Organisational Skills: Ability to assist with administrative tasks, ensuring accurate record-keeping and attention to detail.

  • Digital Literacy: Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and an interest in supporting marketing and online engagement.

What activities are you looking for volunteer support?

Teaching assistant

  • Assist the lead artist in the delivery of dance sessions for a variety of audiences, supporting and engaging with participants to enhance their experience.

  • Help with the setup and pack-down of equipment and spaces for each session.

  • Observe and discuss session structures with the lead artist to better understand different facilitation techniques and teaching strategies.

  • Offer creative input where relevant, in collaboration with the lead artist.

Administration & Monitoring:

  • Assist with monitoring class attendance and participation levels.

  • Help gather feedback and data from participants to evaluate the impact of sessions.

  • Support the maintenance of accurate records for reporting and funding purposes.

  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of session materials, such as timetables, surveys, and promotional materials.

Social Media & Marketing Support:

  • Contribute to the development of social media content (photos, videos, posts) to promote DanceWest's activities and sessions.

  • Help schedule posts and ensure a consistent online presence across social media platforms.

  • Assist in creating marketing materials, such as flyers and newsletters, under the guidance of the DanceWest team.

  • Engage with the online community, responding to comments and messages as required.

Support in Producing Professional and Community Performance Platforms:

  • Assist the DanceWest team in organising and producing performance events, including both professional dance showcases and community performances.

  • Help coordinate logistics for performances, such as scheduling rehearsals, liaising with venues, and managing equipment or costume needs.

  • Support the engagement and preparation of community participants for performances, ensuring they feel confident and supported in their roles.

  • Work with the lead artist and production team to ensure smooth running of rehearsals, helping with setup, stage management, and participant coordination.

  • Assist in promoting performances through social media, flyers, and community outreach, helping to attract audiences and raise awareness.

  • Be present on performance days to provide hands-on support, helping with tasks such as backstage management, ushering, or technical support.

  • Collaborate with the DanceWest team to evaluate the success of the performances, gathering feedback from participants and audiences to inform future events.

Do I need a DBS check?

For most of our work, you will need to have an enhanced DBS is required for this role as our work supports children and vulnerable adults. We are able to support you with obtaining a DBS check.

Where does your activity take place?

We have a studio in Fulham. Our activity is based mainly in West London boroughs and Hammersmith and Fulham in particular.

Do you provide training? 

We offer our volunteers access to safeguarding training, GDPR and health and safety where relevant. We can also support with First Aid and Mental Health First aid training.
